Role

Some Narrative/ mission designing
During the first year, second semester of university, we had to create a level to a set brief from industry Companies, these companies being Ubisoft (The Division 2) or Creative Assembly (Total War Troy). Which for me, I had better knowledge of The Division franchise and had a better idea of the flow of the levels, allowing me to choose to do the Ubisoft Brief for creating a mission for a The Division 2 future expansion.
Leading to me searching the streets of Downtown New Jersey on google maps trying to find a location in the area, then creating a top-down plan for the level. Designing the path and encounter areas through the level turned out easier than expected through both the use of paint to doodle on screen grabs of the area as well as Dungeon Scrawl. Next was blocking out that design creating a grey box level that looked similar to it's real life counterpart before going through adding some basic details to objects around the level and further colour to bring it all alive. Once the level was created, I populated the level with enemies that would help express the areas purpose and how it was used by the occupants.
This was a great experience and greatly helped me in my block out skill through recreating a real location and working to make it as close as possible to the real place. As well as showing how spaces can be made, then built up to suit a world theme before designing how those spaces will be played and experienced in the players journey. The Journey of building a space then making it to look like the real counter part built up my level design skills, but then deciding how someone would use this space after the world fell apart furthered that progress of improvement moving from the grey boxing stages to final levels.
